Ai Weiwei…

How are you my lovely? I hope you’re feeling happy, and you’re enjoying a very relaxing and restful day. I hope taking everything at a gentle pace, and you’re thoroughly enjoying Wimbledon as well {} xxx
Despite it being gloomy outside, I hope the sun’s shining brightly in your precious heart, and it’s bursting with lots of love, excitement and joy xx
I’m keeping everything crossed you were aware of Ai Weiwei’s live stream, and you saw some if it. I hope so xx
I automatically thought it would still be available as a recording, but sadly not. I do feel honoured to see the small amounts I did, but gutted I missed most of the interviews.
The interrogation was interviews by journalists/broadcasters. My brain wouldn’t allow me to watch much today. Concentration takes up so much energy, and my crash doesn’t help either.
Nihal Arthanayake was brilliant, very stern, and so funny with his questioning. I wish I could’ve seen the whole interview. It was fascinating and insightful as well, so too was Lemn Sissay. There were some beautiful and poetic moments.

Amazingly, Ai Weiwei was comfortable and got some sleep, despite the guard marching up and down in his cell, with the music/sound playing. He said he was calm. His mind was calm. He also said that he could endure things that most people couldn’t. He’s absolutely right.
When I saw him in bed last night, I didn’t think he’d get any sleep at all. I’m wrong about a lot of things…
I sadly can’t remember the exact words, but Nihal Arthanayake asked if real/true art can come through love/be about love. Ai Weiwei said no. He feels art comes through suffering, pain, loss.
He also doesn’t believe in love and said he’s quite cynical about it. He feels it exists with God. He was asked if he loves his wife and son. He said that he’d sacrifice himself for his son, which in itself is an act of love.
Ai Weiwei was also asked if he had small regrets, he said no. He was then asked if he had big regrets. He said no, and then said, how could he have big regrets if he didn’t have small regrets. Which was quite funny.
I think it was Lemn Sissay who asked him about hope. I think Ai Weiwei said that he didn’t put any importance on hope. His father told him that if you hope, then the disappointments will be greater. Again, I sadly can’t remember the exact words. I wish I could.
There was much more. Naturally, much is shaped by the Chinese culture, family, politics and his experiences. He did say that he was never hugged by his mum, but he knew he was loved.
I hugged my mum so much, and she hugged me. I was lucky to have that comforting physical closeness, especially since there was none after she died. For me, I associate hugs with love, comfort and safety.
Is it better not to experience something, so that you can’t miss it? I do wonder sometimes, but then I still wouldn’t want to miss any of those precious moments. That would be heartbreaking.
