My two years on the HND Fine Art course at Sutton Coldfield College are almost drawing to a close. It has been a life changing experience and our parting gift is this exhibition.
Insights is an exciting collaboration between graduates, students and artists in the West Midlands. There will be an array of work on display from sculptures, installations, video projection to paintings and prints.
Each artist will give their unique insight into a variety of themes and concepts, ranging from microplastics, the microscopic world of moss and the sublime effects of lighting on porcelain to the human condition, memories and remnants of time that has passed.
The exhibition is at the International New School Gallery, The Jubilee Centre, B5 6ND from Saturday 26 May – Sunday 3 June 2018. For all the details including a full list of the artists involved please visit Insights.
There is an open evening on Friday 1 June from 6 – 8.30pm. Please come, everyone is welcome.
I am over the moon my painting Turmoil has been accepted in the Coventry Open 2016 Exhibition. It came as a complete surprise since entering it really was an afterthought.
The exhibition was open to artists in the West Midlands, Coventry and Warwickshire areas, and we could submit a maximum of two pieces each. Out of the 258 pieces submitted, 79 pieces were selected for the exhibition by three judges – artist Barbara Walker, Craig Ashley, Producer (Visual Arts) at mac Birmingham and Professor John Butler, the CEO of EQ-Arts and former Head of Birmingham School of Art.
The exhibition launched on Friday 13th May 2016 at the gorgeous Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry, and will be on display until Sunday 12th June 2016. There is such a huge variety of work in the exhibition from paintings, drawings, photographs to sculpture, 3D work and video.
The standard and quality of work is extremely high, and there are some stunning pieces which includes ‘I Am Here’ by Renata Juroszva (oil on canvas), ‘The Headless Hood (Bad Dream #2)’ by Glen Morgan aka Fat Parrot (sculpture using 600 year old oak with copper inlay), ‘Three Spires’ by Adam Hussain (kiln-formed glass) and ‘Apocalypse 2’ by Christine Hardy (mixed media).
Gérard Mermoz won the judges hearts with his sweeping landscape, ‘Paysage’ (oil and acrylic on canvas), and was awarded the prize of £1000.
If you find yourself in Coventry then do go and see this stunning exhibition. Grayson Perry’s thought provoking and amazing tapestries are also on display, so if you haven’t already seen them, The Vanity of Small Differences exhibition is on until Sunday 3rd July 2016.
